Northern Province (Kinyarwanda: Intara y'Amajyaruguru; French: Province du Nord) is one of Rwanda's five provinces. It was created in early January 2006 as part of a government decentralization program that re-organized the country's local government structures.
Northern Province comprises most of the former provinces of Ruhengeri and Byumba, along with northern portions of Kigali Rural. It has Surface Area of 3293.3 km2 and it is composed of 5 Districts which are: Burera, Gakenke, Gicumbi, Musanze and Rulindo.
The capital city of Northern Province is Musanze and the province's official languages are English, French, and Kinyarwanda.
The Northern Province shares its Eastern border with the Eastern Province, it borders Uganda in the Northern, shares its Western border with the Western province, while Kigali city and the Southern province borders it in the Southern part. It has some attractive areas such as Volcanoes National Park, Musanze caves, Ruhondo lake and Burera lake.
